Tomando como ejemplo a Arno Fischer y Sibylle Bergemann, Carla aprendió fotografía a una temprana edad. Desde 2016 ha contado con el apoyo del fotógrafo Gundula Schulze Eldowy. Estudió historia y literatura en la Free University of Berlin, graduada finalmente en Magister Artium.
